The provincial capital is Pietermaritzburg. For the history of the province, see Natal. KwaZulu-Natal is generally hilly or mountainous, especially along its western border.
The land rises from the coast to more than 11, feet 3, metres along the Drakensberg Escarpment on that border. The slope is not gradual, however, and various rocky outcrops render the terrain into steps of undulating land ascending from an elevation of feet metres along the coastal plain to areas of 2, feet metres and then 4, feet 1, metres in the centre of the province, a region known as the Midlands.
Beyond the Drakensberg lies the Highveld, or high plateau. Precipitation decreases from more than 50 inches 1, mm annually along the coast to 30 to 40 inches to 1, mm inland. Temperatures decrease from the frost-free coastal area but still remain warm. In general, summers are hot with occasional rain, while the warm, dry, and sunny winters have made the coast the principal holiday playground of Southern Africa.
The higher elevations of the Drakensberg experience freezing temperatures and snow in the winter. Peoples of Black African descent, mostly Zulumake up more than four-fifths of the population, while Asians of mostly Indian descent account for about one-tenth and whites of mostly European descent less than one-tenth.
Most of the people live along and behind the coast or in the centre of the province; the extreme west and northeast are lightly populated. Many Blacks are concentrated in rural areas consisting of broken, rugged country.
Most whites live in or near the port city of Durban or elsewhere along the coast. The rest of the Black Africans speak related Bantu languages. A subsistence economy prevails in the areas that were formerly set aside for Blacks. The economy in these areas rests mainly on cattle raising and corn maize cultivation and is supplemented by remitted earnings of Blacks who work elsewhere in South Africa.
The mineral wealth of KwaZulu-Natal province consists mostly of coal, which is mined in the north around Newcastle and Dundee and provides South Africa with much of its coking and semi-anthracite coal. The most important agricultural area is along the coast, where sugarcane is the major crop.
Sugar refining is mainly carried out in Durban. The province produces such subtropical fruits as pineapples and bananas, and the dairy industry is also important.Migration geographic mobility map

Articles from Britannica Encyclopedias for elementary and high school students.Historically, South African miners used music to lift their spirits while working underground, often in trying and dangerous conditions.
Often, the combination of languages used depended on who was singing the song, so there is no direct English translation for the lyrics. In the mining environment, the anthem is used as a term of encouragement, hope and solidarity for the workers, while modern day South Africa has adopted the song as a show of unity in national sporting events and to relay the message that the players are a part of a team.
Inthe song made its first major international debut when South Africans of all backgrounds joined together in cheering on their team during the Rugby World Cup. The song has also been recorded by a number of artists, including the internationally acclaimed group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, singer PJ Powersand Belgian tenor Helmut Lotti.

The Browns are 0-12 and kust fired their GM, Sashi Brown, this week. This is a team thats still very far from rebuilding and you have to think there's NO incentive for them to win this game as it would be much better to give the new GM the 1st overall pick in this Aprils draft.
Toss in the fact that the Browns have lost ALL 12 games to this point with ALL 12 losses coming by 3 points or more, which is Sunday's point spread- with 8 of the 12 losses have all been by 9 points or more. The Packers are only -3 point road chalk even knowing that Sunday's weather in Cleveland will be 25 degrees with high winds and cloudy. That benefits a Packer's crew depending more on their running game since starting QB Hundley in place of star QB Rogers.

The Story of... 'Africa' by Toto
Teddy is coming off yet another winning NFL Report in Week 13. The first meeting between these two teams was a legitimate shootout, a 31-30 Raiders victory that flew Over the total by two touchdowns.
Even before the late penalty shenanigans that allowed Oakland to steal the game with an untimed down on their final play, the Over was never in doubt. The two teams combined to gain a full 7. We can expect both defenses to struggle getting stops in the rematch as well.
They allowed 38 points, 30 first downs and total 488 yards, all season highs. Even with Darrelle Revis in the mix, this is NOT a good pass defense right now, bad news against Derek Carr and company. And even without Amari Cooper, the Raiders offense will get a boost with the return of Michael Crabtree from his one game suspension. He brings an energy and brings a personality that kind of gets guys going a little bit and makes it fun to be out there.
It's certainly awesome to have his talent back. Both teams rank in the bottom quartile of the NFL in sack percentage, which means that both Derek Carr and Alex Smith should have some clean pockets to throw from.
